Big Bullets in-form striker Chiukepo Msowoya scored the loan goal in the 74th minute to give caretaker coach Ernest Mtawali his first win after taking over from Young Chimodzi who was fired on 14 June.

Msowoya’s header, originating from a corner kick, came two minutes before the referee blew the final whistle prematurely due to darkness.

The game, watched by Malawi President Peter Mutharika, his Zambian counterpart Edgar Lungu and a mammoth of local fans, was scheduled to be played for 80 minutes because it started late.

The Flames registered their first win against the Cranes Under-23 following their 2-1 defeat at home to Zimbabwe in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) opening qualifier last month, a loss that resulted in the sacking of Chimodzi and Jack Chamangwana as coaches.

It was a test for Mtawali as the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) is looking for the Flames mentor who is expected to start the job on 1st August this year, according to the soccer growing body.

This was a warm up match for the Uganda junior side which is expected to travel to Egypt for their Confederation of African Football (CAF) Under-23 match on July 18.
