1Will Red Lions end Big Bullets run?
The Kamuzu Stadium hosts game of the week in TNM Super League football calender this Sunday as reigning Champions and League leaders Big Bullets entertain Red Lions from the old Capital. The People’s team duels the sixteenth fixture of the country’s top flight without tasting defeat. But securing the long held clean sheet will not be a formality as they face a challenge from opposition of equal quality. The Ndirande outfit leads the log table with seven points ahead of the second placed Azam Tigers.
Having won their previous five matches Big Bullets appears to be favourites on paper over the sixth placed Reds who have only won two and drawn three of their five previous matches. Big Bullets’ sparkling form might be a factor considering that it will attract thousands of their fans to cheer them. But history has shown that good form might also be a disadvantage as complacency saw Big Bullets bitterly punished three weeks ago in the hands of rivals, Be Forward Wonders in Carlsberg Cup final.
Meanwhile Red Lions must be prepared to play in a hostile atmosphere which is always guaranteed to every opposition when Big Bullets is at home. Both teams are determined to get the better of each other as they shared spoils in their first round encounter at Zomba Stadium. The match which ended 1-1 saw Red Lions captain, Chikoti Chirwa red carded just ten minutes in the game but throughout the match Big Bullets failed to take advantage of the numbers which proved the Reds strength. Eyes will be on the in-form Bullets defender, “The headmaster”, Yamikani Fodya who is a pillar in the team’s success so far as his massive defending services and fantastic creative free kicks have earned Bullets three-points in tough matches.
At all cost Red Lions defence must stop Fodya to avoid trouble and the strikers must know how to move past his strong wall if they are to get goals. The Reds should also impress their Blantyre fans as they will be back on the same arena next Saturday in Standard Bank quarter final crash against Be Forward. Obviously thousands will be gathered at Kamuzu Stadium this Sunday but nobody knows if Big Bullets’ unbeaten run will be intact or gone by the end of the day. 90 minutes will tell.
